One night i was sitting in my room with my friend Jerry. He is a typical guy who talks before thinking about what he is saying. He rudely pointed out that my furniture in my room wasnt all matching and painted the same. which is true, i love my room but it wasnt a planned thing, I got random pieces of furniture from my family, and alot of it was antique. with some of it being antique, my father and mother and grandparents would hang me if i ever touched some of the stuff with any kind of paint. so I left my room the was it was, mismatched wood.
I am moving into my own apartment, and have been scrapping up money to buy 1 piece
of furniture at a time i have decided to paint whatever the fuck i want to and
have it all matching nicely. Me and my mother decided to choose gray and white for the base colors with accents of yellow and robins egg blue.
before painting any furniture i suggest you look at how to paint it properly, where it wont peel, wont scuff so eaily and will look good for a long time. So here is how to paint furniture properly, it will take a while but its worth it in the end and will look great.
oh and for the record, ive turned the entire down stairs of my mothers house into a painting room and sewing room so please excuse the mess.

WHAT THESE THINGS DO
- SAND PAPER you can sand any piece of furniture before you begin to do anything to it, it helps smooth out the surfaces and makes it easier to paint
- TSP it cleans what you are about to paint along with making it paint ready. it kinda helps the paint stick better
- KILZ we used kilz to prime the piece of furniture. it makes the paint look better. ask the people at home depot if you need to use kils latex or the original or premium.
- PAINT we spent atleast 15 minutes looking between 2 different shades of gray paint. we ended up chooseing Glidden Zinc paint. we love this gray color. and the sheen we chose was flat.
- MINWAX PASTE FINISHING WAX the paste wax helps keep it from getting scuffed up so easily and is used after we paint. it also gives it a pretty finish.
This is the piece of furniture me and mom decided to paint. we got it from a thrift store for $9. Being as broke as I am, I've learned to be thrifty and see any piece of shit furniture as a beautiful piece of furniture with a little work done to it. When looking for furniture to buy, dont go to target or IKEA, that shit will break during your first kegger. You want to buy good furniture with "good bones", nicely built, sturdy, and not easly breakable. if its scuffed up it doesnt matter cause your going to sand it and paint it anyways.
STEP 1: PREPING
First we started by sanding the rough parts, and cleaning it with TSP.
STEP 2: PRIMING
Paint it with KILZ.
STEP 3: PAINTING
common sense, paint your piece of furniture. Go over it with 2 coasts just to make sure you didnt have any thin spots or missed any spots, it happens, and lets face it, you dont want one of your guests pointing it out to you at a dinner party. embarassing! and let dry for a while before you start to paste wax it.
STEP 5: FINISHING UP
when using the paste wax, we used a big think paint brush to sort of paint it on and used a rag to smooth it out and make it shiney!and who doesnt love shiney things.
so for a $9 coffee table, we made it look pretty darn good! if you have any questions just leave a comment :)
